Step-by-Step: How to Make Your Own Handcrafted Candle

Candles are often associated with relaxation romantic settings. Making a candle on your own is even better as it allows you to showcase your creativity produce something personal that can also make a great present. Here is a guide on how you can make your own handcrafted candle.

What you need

The main ingredients you need are wax wick essential oils fragrance oils a container. You can choose any type of wax from beeswax soy wax paraffin wax or palm wax. You also need a wick that is the same height as your container a pouring pot a double boiler or a heat-resistant bowl a thermometer a stirring utensil.

Steps

Step 1 – Prepare the wax wick

Begin by melting the wax in a double boiler or a heat-resistant bowl. Use a thermometer to monitor the temperature ensure it does not exceed 185°F. This is the temperature at which most waxes melt. While the wax melts prepare the wick by dipping it into the melted wax then sticking it to the center-bottom of the container. Hold it in place until it dries the wax hardens.

Step 2 – Add color fragrance

Once the wax has melted you can add your chosen fragrance color. You can use essential oils or fragrance oils to scent your candle while liquid dyes or crayon shavings can add color. Add your preferred amount based on the size of the container the desired fragrance level.

Step 3 – Pour the wax

After adding color fragrance wait for the wax to cool slightly before pouring it into the container with the wick in place. Ensure it does not exceed ¼ inch from the top of the container. You may also want to keep some wax aside to top up later as the wax cools sets.

Step 4 – Wait let the candle cool set

After pouring wait for the wax to cool solidify. It typically takes three to four hours for the wax to solidify depending on the size of the container. Once the wax sets you can trim the wick to ¼ inch to make it easier to light later.

Step 5 – Enjoy your candle

Once completely cooled you can burn your new candle enjoy the warm fragrant personal ambiance it creates.
