If you’re using a fabric base material cut it to the size shape you want your rug to be. If you’re using a non-woven base material like an old carpet or carpet tiles cut them to the size shape you want secure the edges with duct tape.

Step 3: Attach Your Backing Material

Using a strong adhesive or rug gripper attach your backing material to the base material. This will ensure that your rug doesn’t slip or slide on hardwood or tile floors.

Step 4: Choose Your Rug Surface Material

Decide on what material you want to use for the surface of your rug. You can use fabric strips braided rope or yarn depending on the look feel you’re going for.

Step 5: Attach Your Rug Surface Material

Using a hot glue gun an industrial stapler or needle thread attach your rug surface material to the base material. Start at one end of the rug work your way to the other making sure the material is evenly spaced tightly secured.

Step 6: Trim Your Rug Surface Material

Once you’ve attached your rug surface material trim any excess material with scissors or a rotary cutter. This will give your rug a clean finished look.

Once you’ve finished making your rug lay it out in the room of your choice enjoy your new creation!
