Step-by-Step Guide: How to Create a Histogram in Excel

Excel is a powerful tool that can help us analyze visualize data. One useful tool for visualizing data is a histogram. A histogram is a chart that represents the distribution of numerical data. In this article we will provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to create a histogram in Excel.

Step 1: Prepare your data

In the Charts group select the Histogram option from the dropdown list.

A dialog box will appear asking you to select the data range you want to use for the histogram. Make sure that the range selected includes the column headers.

Step 7: Select the number of bins

In the Histogram dialog box you can select the number of bins you want to use for the histogram. Bins are the number of ranges that your data is divided into. For example if you are analyzing the heights of people you might choose to have 10 bins which would divide the heights into 10 ranges.

Step 8: Choose where to place the chart

In the Histogram dialog box you can choose where to place the histogram chart. You can either create a new worksheet which will place the chart on a new tab or you can place the chart on an existing worksheet.

Step 9: Format your histogram

Once you have created the histogram you can format it to suit your needs. You can change the colors add titles more. To format the chart click on the chart use the chart tools in the top ribbon of Excel.
