How to Make a Medicine Ball: A Step-by-Step Guide

Making a medicine ball is a great way to add a unique piece of equipment to your home gym. Medicine balls are versatile can be used for a variety of exercises from core strengthening to plyometrics. Plus they’re relatively inexpensive easy to make. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to make a medicine ball.

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

The first step in making a medicine ball is to gather the materials you’ll need. You’ll need a large sturdy ball such as a basketball or soccer ball. You’ll also need some type of filler material such as sand rice or beans. You’ll also need a strong needle thread a pair of scissors a measuring cup.

Step 2: Prepare the Ball

Once you have all of your materials you’ll need to prepare the ball. Start by using the scissors to make a small hole in the ball. Make sure the hole is big enough for the needle thread to fit through.

Step 3: Fill the Ball

Next you’ll need to fill the ball with the filler material. Start by measuring out the amount of filler material you’ll need. You’ll want to fill the ball about two-thirds of the way full. Once you’ve measured out the filler material pour it into the ball through the hole you made.

Step 4: Sew the Ball Shut

Once the ball is filled you’ll need to sew it shut. Start by threading the needle tying a knot at the end. Then insert the needle through the hole begin to sew the ball shut. Make sure to pull the thread tight as you go. Once you’ve sewn the ball shut tie a knot at the end cut off any excess thread.

Step 5: Test the Ball

Once you’ve finished sewing the ball shut it’s time to test it out. Give the ball a few gentle tosses to make sure it’s securely sealed. If it feels like it’s going to come apart you may need to add more filler material or sew it shut more tightly.

Step 6: Enjoy Your Medicine Ball

Once you’ve tested the ball it’s securely sealed you’re ready to start using it. Medicine balls are great for a variety of exercises from core strengthening to plyometrics. Have fun enjoy your new medicine ball!
